Welcome to NTMA
This is introducing Nigerian Textile Manufacturers Association (NTMA).
The big umbrella under which the Nigerian Textile Industry
NTMA came together as a body as far back as May, 1967. Most of
the Textile Mills came into existence between 1960 – 1975. The
ban on importation of Textiles into Nigeria during and after the 1967 –
1970 civil war prompted more investors into the textile
In 1978, the then Federal Government decided to ban yarn
importation as from 1984. This again led to backward integration in the industry. Many mills became fully
integrated companies while some came up as only spinning mills.
The Association acts as a forum for employees and manufacturers
in the textile and garment industries to deliberate on common
issues. It does not engage in any trading activity.
Before the decline
in the industry,
it had the state-of-the-art Textile Machines raging
from shuttle, shuttless/sulzer looms, knitting, embroidery,
spindles including open-end rotors and auto coror rotors to real
wax printing technology. This level of technological
sophistication surpasses any other sub-saharan country. The
total textile machinery in the country is far more than all
remaining sub-saharan countries put together.
